How Anxiety Kills Your Drive & What to Do About It.

By Dr. Nicole Cain ND, MA

I am going to tell you exactly what to do when anxiety kills your drive and makes you feel like throwing in the towel or not even getting up out of bed in the morning.

Have you ever felt like there is a part of you that has dreams, goals, and things that you want to do with your life, but that you literally have no motivation to do anything about it? It’s like there’s this whole inner world where you change the outer world in some awesome way, but anxiety steals the gusto you need to make things happen.

You try your best to push through, but anxiety always seems to be waiting in the wings, and just when you feel like you’ve mustered up some motivation, anxiety comes along and squishes it like a bug.

I have been there. In my life, my level of anxiety and motivation tend to have an inverse relationship with my Netflix consumption. The more overwhelmed and anxious I feel, the less motivated I am to pursue my passions (or deal with my anxiety for the record) and the more I want to zone out in front of Home and Garden television.

But you know what? I have found the solution for putting the drive back in your life and kicking your anxiety to the curb. I’m going to share with you three steps for jump starting your drive that you can immediately implement, starting today.

Hi! I’m Dr. Nicole Cain and as an anxiety expert and an integrative mental health consultant I have helped thousands of people get their lives back and I can help you. I have worked with high achievers, and experts from around the world and have developed powerful integrative strategies that literally change the way my clients think and feel.

Step 1: Identify the number one threat against drive: Anxiety.

You are NOT your anxiety and you can CHANGE your brain and your thoughts. Anxiety is a complex pattern of thoughts and feelings that come from the brain as a result of our history, biology, genetics, trauma, and environment.

Step 2: The anxious brain is like an octopus waving its tentacles all around grasping at whatever is in reach.

Instead of joining in the chaos, allow yourself to simply observe the process. Do not engage, just notice.

Say to yourself:

“Thinking, thinking, my brain is thinking.”
“Wow! Those are a lot of anxious thoughts.”
“I am not my thoughts.”
“My brain likes to think thoughts because it gives it a feeling of control.”
“I have the power to change my thoughts.”
“With practice, I will become more able to create feelings of calm.”

What else can you think of that you would like to say to your anxious brain?

In my Anxiety 1 Week Freedom Program we go over multiple skills including ways to stop anxious thoughts, ways to feel better in your body and strategies to reduce your anxiety with daily routine.

Step 3: For now let’s start tapping

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, they describe specific points on the body that can change the way we think and feel. There are four points on the top of your head that are excellent for anxiety. To find them, locate the tips of your ears and trace your fingers to the top of your head. They will connect in the middle on the top of your head. Imagine drawing a small box, about a thumb’s width in each direction from that central point.

The points are located in the four corners of the box with the central spot in the middle. When you start to feel anxious, use your pointer and middle fingers with each hand, and tap the four corners with a moderate pressure quickly for 30 seconds. As you tap inhale the word: It’s, and then exhale the word: “okay. Repeat this as many times as you need.

Practice this daily and you should start to see results. I am so on fire for empowering people to break free, that I created a FREE Anxiety 1 Week Freedom Program. Come check it out. I have so much information on there that it’ll knock your socks off. I can’t wait to continue on this journey with you!
